In the future, they will ask: How do/did we survive? And we will answer honestly: We didn’t and we don’t.
Not whole. Not without losing that arm on the way home (OEB/@demonicground).
What is whole in a world of slaves?
(and @BrennaWynn used this phrasing in a FB post on white racism recently and I thought it was perfect, thank you to her)
–it is “completely unremarkable” that we don’t survive. It is a FACT.
We stress/study/write/research the ways we don’t survive so that many of you who do not see black pain can SEE it and DO something about it.
But if we all could stand to bear witness to the devastating impact these systems have had and are having on black folks, on all of us?
We stress/study/write/research the ways we don’t survive so that we know/remember/relearn/revive ways we still LIVE(D).
The ways we rethought survival, soundness, being whole. Being human. (cc: Sylvia Wynter)
