Me (@jmjafrx) at Howard University Slavery Seminar (September 2016)

It was a pleasure to spend time with Ana Lucia Araujo and the Howard University slavery scholars community this past September.

I presented work from my book manuscript in progress, Practicing Freedom: Black Women, Intimacy, and Kinship in New Orleans’ Atlantic World. The generous suggestions, particularly from visiting Africanists like Jane Hooper (George Mason University), Atlanticists like Jeffrey Kerr-Ritchie, and Caribbeanists like David Sartorius, made the discussion extremely rich and enjoyable.

Looking forward to attending the slavery seminar now that I am back in the area!!
