VIDEO: Common – Black America Again ft. Stevie Wonder

Common released a short film titled, “Black America Again.”

Director: Bradford Young
Executive Producer: Ava Duvernay

The visuals accompany the release of his album of the same name.

I never say this–never, ever, ever–but read the comments beneath the video. There, black people are curating the symbols and cues in the video, like the cosmogram drawn by three women in white (around 13:15). The commenters even reference Robert Farris Thompson; give props to Flash of the Spirit, a book that is still teaching, still circulating. The moko jumbie or spirit-infused stilt walkers of the Caribbean and West African also make an appearance in the video.

Look at this food. I love us so much.
